What to Expect When You Get a Spray Tan

Warm weather means less clothing and more skin on display, so a healthy tan is in order for most people. We all know that baking our skin red in the sun is no longer a safe option so fake tan is the number one solution to enjoy a bronzed glow when you next hit the pool or beach.

A beauty salon professional can look after you with a full body spray tan which is applied with an air gun resulting in a skin tone that is several shades darker than your natural skin colour.

How long will a spray tan last?

In general, a spray tan will last for around a week, this can vary from person to person however they typically last about 5-7 days from one application.

The benefits of spray tanning over home application

There are many self tanning products on the market such as lotions, creams, gels, and mousses, however a professional spray on tan from a beauty salon is definitely the most effective solution.

All types of self tanning and spray tanning use the same active ingredient, DHA. However, the results can differ significantly.

Spray tanning is easy! You just need to prepare yourself by shaving/waxing and exfoliating the day before, then visit your beauty salon to have your whole body sprayed with no mess or fuss (as apposed to home application which can be very messy).

Another added benefit of spray tanning is that it dries much faster then many self tanning products. So its much less likely to stain your clothes, bed or partner!

Many people like the uniform colour that’s achieved from a spray tan much better then self applying lotions. It’s just much easier to achieve an even consistent colour throughout the whole body.

How to get the best results from your spray tanning session

There is a little preparation required prior to your beauty salon appointment. Here are a few tips you should follow to get the best results from your spray tan:

  1. Shave and wax all areas the day before.

  2. Use a good exfoliator scrub on your skin prior to spray tanning. This will remove any dead skin or dirt that will get in the way.

  3. Do not apply moisturizers, makeup or deodorant before your spray tan. These products can react with the tan solutions and cause it to look streaky and blotchy.

  4. Remove all jewellery, you may wear a bikini if required or your beauty salon may provide paper pants.

  5. Wear dark clothing to your beauty salon spray tan. White clothing may become stained directly after the procedure.

  6. Do not shower or swim after your spray tan for approx. eight hours.

  7. When the development period has complete, always just pat dry after showering and avoid long baths as this may reduce the lifespan of your new tan.

  8. Use moisturiser and exfoliator every day so that you may look sun-kissed for many days to come!

The colour may take time to appear

As the day progresses your spray tan will get much darker, so don’t be alarmed if you leave your beauty salon feeling like its too light. The colour will take a little time to fully develop before you can enjoy the full benefits of your glowing tan.
